The Paris Agreement is a landmark in the multilateral climate change process because, for the first time, a binding agreement brings all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects. Its goal of Paris Agreement is to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.
Driven by the Paris Agreement, more and more countries and large and medium-sized enterprises have begun to announce their own carbon compliance and carbon neutrality plans. More businesses are also beginning to audit their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions sources on-site or off-site to identify areas for improvement to comply with state-wide clean energy regulations and meet environmental, social and governance goals, thereby attracting investors and add value to the company's sustainable development.
Some companies are also implementing their own business-wide sustainability goals to be seen as industrial leaders and setting good sustainable leading performance. Many businesses are setting target dates (eg, 50% or 100% zero emissions by 2030 or 2035, etc.) to meet their emissions reduction goals and increase brand reputation to stay competitive in the market.
In 2020,as the world largest GHG Emission country, China has announced that by 2030, China will strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030. Aim for carbon neutrality by 2060.
